Getting back into the game

I just managed to finish my first "shitty rough draft" of a short story in nearly two years. Feels good. Other than the novel writen during last Novemember, I really haven't done too much creative writing lately. Hopefully I can get a good working draft from this in the near future (although it took me forever to write this shirt story) and get it out there in the wild.

And now I am enjoying an orange. I deserve it.

Ghosts I-IV

location: Mishawaka, IN 46544
mood: pleased pleased
music: Nine Inch Nails-Ghosts I-IV

I love that Nine Inch Nails are revelvent again. For a while there (i.e. With Teeth) I thought the band had simply become an artifact of my youth, something that I will only revisit with nostalgia. Thank God for Year Zero and everything hence.

The new instrumental album, Ghosts I-IV is incredible. I know this because I just downloaded it from what.cd. (And it feels so damn good to be able to admit that with fear of a lawsuit.) I will certainly be ordering the 2xCD for $10. Hell, I would even buy the $300 package if I had the funds, a nice turntable and remixing talent. I really hope Reznor is making a good profit on this because it seems like he is giving this shit out for practically nothing.

"14 Ghosts II" just started. Love it.

Freeze Etch - 'Another Movie Vessel'

Feb. 15th, 2008 | 07:40 am
music: Freeze Etch, of course

After sitting on this music video for nearly three years, it's about time it gets out there.

The video is directed (i.e. created) by Chris Hefner. The song, "Another Moving Vessel," appears on Freeze Etch's debut album Vessels. If you like what you've heard, go buy a copy. (Hint: for a few extra bucks, order the Pejorative EP as well.)

Last night's dreams

Feb. 12th, 2008 | 07:29 am
mood: sleepy sleepy
music: Einstürzende Neubauten

I can only remember two distinct dreams (or parts of the same dream).

First, I played a juvenile delinquent on an episode of My Name is Earl. Apparently Earl and Joy were traveling across country but Earl had some grievous wound or some sort of poisoning as he was clenching his stomach, moaning and needed assistance to walk. Earl and Joy abandon their car outside a fast food restaurant where me and my gang happen upon it. The whole episode, I suppose, was supposed to be about what we did to and with the car but I can't remember any of that. Eventually I make a decision to set things right. There is a touching moment between me and Joy and a pissed off Earl, and I get my own spin-off show.

The second dream is a preview for a new game show called "What's the Smell?" What's it about. I wondered the same. Apparently the television producers in my head think it would be cool to dangle people in a dark, expansive tomb, over centuries old corpses, and force them to identify what killed them by smelling the dead flesh. The example given was a poor woman having her face rubbed into a mummy's leathery leg, while a voice gives her hints as to the cause of death: a flesh eating parasite. It would be a hit!

Anonymous vs Xenu

Today marks the worldwide protest of Anonymous against the lamest of all for-profit religions, the Church of Scientology. Whitechapel has documentation.

For the record, I would much rather be in the freezing cold protesting an exploitive cult founded by a conman than sitting here writing about multi-tools and Carhartt t-shirts.

Scaly skyscrapper coming to Chicago

Feb. 6th, 2008 | 08:45 pm

I approve of this skyscrapper designed by Studio Gang Architects set to appear in Chicago in 2009. The asymmetrical balconies are intended to give the effect of rippling water, but I think it looks more like the building is covered in scales.

Hello again.

Feb. 6th, 2008 | 11:07 am
mood: hopeful hopeful
music: Out There Radio

So, I got this idea that I need a place on the internet where I can stretch my legs under a bit of anonymity. I have a handful of websites out there but I have my real name attached to way too many of them. And because of my love for the strange, geekiness and my internet potty mouth, his may not be a good idea since I am also looking for a job. In fact, if I'm not careful, this post could be pretty incriminating. Sigh.

I used to have a livejournal back in the day before I learned how to administer my own websites and blogs, but when you have your own site, you have no community unless you are cool enough to build your own. Livejournal comes with a pre-made community. I like that. I really missed that.

So I'm back. For now.
